Sundown Library

Account Registration Policy

Getting a card, renewing materials, placing holds, etc.

Who can get a card?

Any resident of the City of Sundown

OR a Hockley-County resident who owns property, is employed, or attends school or does business within the tax area is eligible for an account.

Α. Adults

Valid identification may be required at the discretion of the librarian, specifically for an educator “teacher” account. Adult accounts are renewed yearly to maintain up-to-date communication information.

B. Children

Any child who is over the age of six (6) years old is eligible for a “student” account. A parent/guardian must apply in-person for the minor and agree to liability for damages. Children younger than six (6) years of age are not issued an account. Parents/guardians may check out materials for preschoolers on their adult library cards.

C. College Students

College students may be issued a library account with current school ID, their Hockley County address, and home address noted on the account.

D. Out-of County Residents

Certain out-of-county residents may also check out materials from the City of Sundown Library with a valid TexShare library card or other valid library membership. These accounts will be “Temporary” in the system.

Circulation Period

The circulation period for adult and juvenile books in the general collection is two weeks. The first time an account is activated, five books may be checked out and then ten (max) books thereafter.

The circulation period for various other materials is as follows:

  • Games - 2 weeks
  • Interlibrary loan - 2 weeks
  • Special collections - reference books are non-circulating

Fines and Fees

The City of Sundown Library is considered fine-free in that we extend grace beyond the due date. However, we do charge for LOST or DAMAGED items.

All injuries to library materials beyond reasonable wear (“damaged”) and all books missing that will require replacement shall be paid for to the satisfaction and records of the Library Director. Failure to return books/materials within a reasonable period will be considered theft of city property. Please don’t abuse the grace we extend.

Renewals

Books may be renewed for another circulation period (2 weeks) unless the book is on reserve or in special demand.

Reserves

Reserves are taken on most circulating materials in the library. Upon locating a reserved item, the library will call the patron. The patron is allowed seven days from the initial day of contact to pick up the reserved item, after which it will be returned to circulation.
